The fifth ranking tournament weekend of the 2024-25 season.
The first competition of the weekend was the Welsh classic.
Group 1 was a tight group, with Darren Kennish winning all his games to top the group but a fight was on for the runner up spot, all 3 players finished on 3 legs won, but Gavin Hibbert was the player to take 2nd place in the group on the leg difference and count back rule.
Group 2 was a tough group to be in, with Ricky Chilton winning all his games taking 1st in the group, and Mark Couchman winning 3 out of the 4 matches taking 2nd spot.
In the semifinals Darren Kennish defeated Mark Couchman 3-0 and in a deciding leg Ricky Chilton defeated Gavin Hibbert 3-2.
So, we had our 1st wheelchair final of the weekend, and not for the first time this season it was Darren Kennish vs Ricky Chilton. Ricky was to dominate this final rolling out a 4-0 winner and taking the Welsh Classic 2025 title, Congratulations Ricky Chilton.
The second competition of the weekend was the Welsh Open.
Group 1 was an all English affair With Darren Kennish winning 2 out of 2 and Kevin Stringer AKA Beep Beep also recording 2 from 2 it was countback for winner and runner up in group 1 with Kevin 2-0 victory over Darren putting him top of group 1 and Darren runner up.
Group 2 This turned into a very close group, Steve Plimley winning 3 matches and taking a leg in his loss to Phil Lees meant he topped the group on 7 legs won. The runner up spot with both players recording 6 legs won went on count back and with Ricky Chilton beating Phil Lees 2-1 Ricky took 2nd place in group.
so, into the semis, Ricky Chilton defeated Kevin Stringer 3-0 and Darren Kennish defeated Steve Plimley 3-0 to set up the 6th Ricky Chilton vs Darren Kennish final of the British calendar.
Ricky stormed into a 3-0 lead but with all his quality and determination Darren battled back to take it into a deciding leg, in the final leg Ricky took it with ease and rolled out a 4-3 winner and taking the Welsh Open title 2025, massive congratulations to Ricky Chilton on doing the double in his homeland. Thanks to all the committee again for making these tournament`s possible and hopefully see you all in Barrow in-Furness for the Lakes classic and open 21st & 22nd June 2025.
