BDDA STANDING RANKING TABLE EVENT No7

Chelmsford July 2025

The seventh ranking tournament weekend of the 2024-25 season.

Day one seen players compete for The David Silva Essex Shield on a scorching weekend again down in Chelmsford.

Group 1 David Johnson beat everybody in this group topping it with 8 legs, runner up in the group was Lee Dagnell with his 2-1 victory over Godfrey Reid.

Group 2 Jon Hirst the current British No1 hoping to confirm him Finishing British No1 2024-25 and he was in fine form winning all his games in this group to finish top, runner up in the group was to be decided between Steve North and Peter Bramley, with Peter winning it 2-0 taking second place.  

Group 3 Matt Doe won this group winning all 3  games 2-0, with Kevin Lack finishing runner up.

Group 4 Paul Gelder winning all his games topped this group with John young runner up.

Quarter Finals

Paul Gelder 1 vs 3 Lee Dagnell, Lee was the better in a close game and books his place in the semi finals.

Jonathan Hirst 3 vs 1 John Young, Mr Young gave the No1 a scare, but Jon Hirst was too strong in then end.

David Johnson 3 vs 0 Kevin Lack, turned into an easy win for David Johnson.

Matt Doe 3 vs 0 Peter Bramley, Peter just turn up for this game and Matt Doe ran out with an easy victory.

Semi Finals

Dave Johnson 1 vs 4 Jon Hirst, Jon made light work of this game and good finishing (even though he sometimes hasn’t a clue what he’s doing haha)

Matt Doe 4 vs 2 Lee Dagnell, this turned into a tough battle and even though lee had his chances Matt took his chance and booked his final spot.

Final

Jon Hirst 4 vs 2 Matt Doe

This was the best game of the day, with early blows as Matt started off with a 15 dart leg and 104 checkout with Jon sat waiting on 32, Jon then took the next two legs in 22 and 20 darts to lead 2-1, a superb 126 finish on Bull in 18 darts seen Jon extend his lead to 3-1, Matt then pulled a leg back in 20 darts to make it 3-2, Jon Hirst with a superb 140 140 100 97 24 in 2 darts sealed the title in a 14 dart leg taking the David Silva Essex Shield 2025.

Day Two players competed for the David Silva Essex Cup.

Group 1 What a fantastic group this turned out to be, with Jon Hirst took top spot winning 3 games and taking a leg off Lee Dagnell, Lee winning his first 2 games but failed to  take a leg in the next 2 matches, Steve North lost his first 2 games but won his next 2 including a 2-0 win over Lee. Alan Wilkinson after losing his first game 2-0 to Jon made a fight of it by winning his next 2 games, which sent it down to the very last game in the group with Alan needing to win to take second place in group, in a very strange game were neither player could find a rhythm Alan lost the first leg but took the second leg to make it a tense finish, Alan held his nerve and ran out a 2-1 winner and book his place it the quarters.

Group 2 Matt Doe like the day before didn’t drop a leg taking top spot with Godfrey Reid taking second spot.

Group 3 Peter Bramley won all his games and Kevin Lack taking second place.

Group 4 Paul Gelder, the champ he is, won all his games and topped the group, with Katie Dolmen taking second spot.

Quarter Finals

Matt Doe 3 vs 1 Kevin Lack an easy win for Matt Doe.

Peter Bramley 3 vs 0 Godfrey Reid with a superb victory over Godfrey Reid.

Jonathan Hirst 3 vs 0 Katie Dolman made light work of this quarter final and took his place in the semi final.

Paul Gelder 3 vs 0 Alan Wilkinson Paul ran out the winner in quick fashion.

Semi Finals

Paul Gelder 4 vs 0 Pete Bramley this was a great game between two good friends, but Paul`s class showed and legs of 22 20 15 19 including a 156 checkout in leg 3.

Matt Doe 3 vs 4 Jon Hirst Matt took a 3-1 lead in this and being the champion he is Jon fought back in style taking the next 3 legs to book a place in yet another final.

Final

Paul Gelder 4 vs 3 Jon Hirst, this was another great final and with the the scores at 1-1 Jon Hirst hit a 18 dart leg with a 100 checkout to go 2-1 up, Jon then broke the throw next leg to go 3-1 up and on the verge of yet another victory, in the fifth leg Jon missed 8 match darts and Paul pinched the leg, the sixth leg Jon again missed a match dart and Paul took out a sweet 70 in 2 darts to take it to a deciding leg, in the deciding leg Paul hit a 91 to leave 40 giving Jon a shot at 66 but again Jon missed a match dart and Paul took out 40 in 2 to take the match and take the David Silva Essex Cup 2025 Title.

We all look forward to seeing as many as you as possible for the 2025-2026 BDDA season starting in Bridlington on Friday the 19th September 2025 and also Saturday and  then on the Sunday for the players who did brilliantly to qualify we play the “Fast Away BDDA British Masters 2024-25.”
